VCon is Vancouver, BC's yearly science-fiction fantasy convention.
This year the convention was held at the Executive Airport Plaza in Richmond, BC near the Vancouver International Airport.
Guests included Robert Silverberg, science-guest George Dyson, artist-guest Todd Lockwood, and media guests such as many of the new Battlestar Galactica cast.

The Dealers' room also hosted signings, and a radio presentation.

Hospitality is a fun place to relax, and a great mixer for conversations. You can see Art Guest of Honor, Todd Lockwood, 'Goblins' creator, Tarol Hunt, and others working at the art pads. Similar art is created at the Turkey Readings during the reading of some of the worst fiction ever printed.

This year was a little different; I was on panels myself and as such, many pictures here were taken from the other side of the table. This was appropriate considering the panels were discussing privacy and security. I saw George Dyson give his talk on the Orion Project, watched SuperAnon, an indie film about the siblings of superheroes, and J.D. "Illiad" Frazer, creator of User Friendly, give a talk about how to make a profit online. The Battlestar Galactica Panel is on its own page.

Turkey Readings

An event where we take the worst sci-fi and fantasy literature - often old pulps that illustrate what you get when you pay by the word - and act them out, to a reading. If you're thinking that it sounds awful, you're right. Awfully funny too though, which is the only thing that keeps the actors from rebelling when someone bids to continue whatever literary masterpiece we're roasting at the moment. The proceeds of the turkey readings and the "art" auction afterwords go to CUFF, the Canadian Unity Fan Fund.
